A Spanish army officer, Don Jose (Nero), stationed in Seville, meets and begins a relationship with a mysterious gypsy, Carmen (Aumont). Jose (Franco Nero) este un soldat naiv care se lasa pacalit de Carmen, o tiganca frumoasa, dar inselatoare. Din cauza pasiunii si geloziei, Jose omoara un superior si este nevoit sa duca o viata la marginea societatii, impreuna cu satra de tigani.
