Believing there are no obstacles to his march on Ascalan, Sultan Nureddin postpones the conquest upon learning of Saladin's demise. Upon arriving at Saladin's headquarters, he is shocked to find Saladin dead, plunging both him and the Ayyubid family into profound grief. While Damascus mourns its hero, the Crusaders celebrate victory. Sultan Nureddin vows to avenge Saladin's death by conquering Ascalan.
