随心所欲由12个章节所组成，讲述一名希望当演员的女子，因为生活拮据而从事性交易，电影展示了平凡性工作者的日常生活和感性一面。在每个章节的开头都交代了该章节角色、地点及简短剧情。导演让吕克戈达尔以"卖淫"来比喻生活在传统资本主义制度下的导演。女主角安娜·卡里娜当时正是导演戈达尔的妻子，由于戈达尔拒绝给她演出台词，所以绝大部分都由安娜·卡里娜临场即兴演出。每个场景戈达尔也很少拍第二遍，大多是一次过。负责掌镜的Raoul Coutard则带来令人赞叹不已的精致黑白画面。这一系列的即兴演出和片段式的剧情带给观众欣赏美学或经济学視角纪录片的特殊感受。此外，该片别出心裁的目录式风格明显呈现出与一般传统制式风格的不同。 themoviedb
