九世紀中期，英格蘭在維京人（丹麥人）大舉入侵後，東盎格利亞、諾森布里亞和麥西亞等王國不是被消滅就是變成丹麥人的附庸，只剩下威塞克斯王國苦苦支撐。 烏特雷德是諾森布里亞王國貝班堡領主的次子，11歲那年丹麥人入侵英格蘭，其兄在偵察丹麥軍隊動向時被殺後，烏特雷德繼任為貝班堡繼承人；其父在率兵對抗丹麥軍時，烏特雷德騎馬偷跟過去，英格蘭聯軍在未攻破丹麥軍防線時，就將預備隊壓上，導致英格蘭聯軍被前後包夾覆滅，貝班堡領主戰死。烏特雷德被丹麥人伯爵朗納爾俘獲，後被其收為養子。貝班堡則被烏特雷德的叔叔阿爾弗里克據為己有。 烏特雷德成年後，養父朗納爾伯爵被丹麥人仇人殺死。烏特雷德為恢複本應屬於自己的貝班堡領地及為朗納爾伯爵復仇，投效威塞克斯王國的阿爾弗雷德王子，幫助其抵擋丹麥軍對英格蘭最後的王國威塞克斯的侵攻。 themoviedb
