Nach einem kleinen Herzinfarkt versucht Police-Detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans, Sr.) jedem Stress aus dem Weg zu gehen. Sein alter Partner und jetziger Vorgesetzter Captain Brooks Avery (Kevin Rahm) befürchtet, dass Murtaugh allmählich in eine Depression abgleitet und wittert eine Chance, den Kollegen „ins Leben zurückzuholen“, als der ehemalige Navy SEAL Detective Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) zu seiner Einheit kommt. Der hat am Tod seiner Ehefrau und seines Kindes zu knabbern.
